Effective date: November 4, 2026
In short
•
Your journal is yours. What you log stays on your phone. You don't need an account.
•
No ads or advertising tracking. We never sell your personal data.
•
What leaves the phone:
◦
The built-in food search runs on your phone. Food barcode and supplement catalog lookups work without an account on both phones, through Trace's servers. They send the search words, barcode or catalog product identifier needed to find the item, without AI analysis.
◦
Other supplement and medication searches may contact public databases directly.
◦
Photo analysis, AI descriptions, cup sizing, AI-assisted product lookups and the larger food database send only what that feature needs. On iPhone and Android they work without an account, within a daily allowance.
◦
Android's automatic cup tools use Google services for models and diagnostics. Image cut-outs are processed on your phone; the details are in section 3.7.
•
Trace Plus is bought through the App Store or Google Play. We never receive your payment details. A subscription management provider keeps Plus working under a pseudonymous ID, not your name or email (section 3.8).
•
You stay in control. You can export or delete everything in Settings, delete your account in the app, and stop using AI features at any time.
1. Who we are
Trace is provided by MySupplements LLC, 108-14 72nd Ave, Forest Hills, NY 11375, USA ("MySupplements", "we", "us"). We are the controller of the personal data described here.
•
Privacy contact: support@mysupplementsapp.com
•
Privacy officer: Moon Kim, support@mysupplementsapp.com
2. What this policy covers
Trace is currently offered only in the United States. This policy covers the Trace app, its website (trace-api.mysupplementsapp.com/legal) and the services that support them. It does not cover services we don't control, such as the app stores, Apple or Google sign-in, or the public databases Trace looks things up in. Their own policies apply.
3. What we process, and where it lives
3.1 What you log, kept on your device
What you record in Trace is health information. It includes:
•
meals, food photos, descriptions and notes;
•
drinks of water, and the size of your cup;
•
supplements and medications, their doses and schedules, and doses taken or skipped;
•
check-ins (sleep, energy, mood), weight and activity;
•
your profile: age, sex, height, weight, pregnancy or breastfeeding status, goals and settings.
It is stored on your device. Your device's own backup may also include it (iCloud on iPhone, Google backup on Android), under your device settings. We don't receive this journal, except for the specific pieces a feature sends, described in 3.3.
3.2 Searches and barcode scans
Food searches run on your phone, in a copy of the USDA's food database built into Trace.
Food barcode and supplement catalog lookups go through Trace's servers on iPhone and Android, without an account. Our servers look the item up in food databases and product catalogs, such as Open Food Facts and the MySupplements catalog, and may pass a catalog request on to another catalog service. They send only the search words, barcode or catalog product identifier needed, without your account details, and these lookups don't send your photos or journal to AI. Our servers may reuse a catalog lookup's answer for about a day when the same lookup comes again. Technical information used to protect the service is described in section 3.7.
When you type a search, Trace may also send unfamiliar Korean or Japanese words, with the kind of item you're looking for, to our AI services, which check whether the words are a brand name and translate them into English search terms (section 3.3).
Other supplement and medication searches may send search words directly to public services such as the U.S. National Library of Medicine and National Institutes of Health. Like any website, a service your phone contacts directly can see your device's IP address. Opening a result's image or source link may also contact the site that hosts it. Our Data sources page lists the public databases Trace uses.
3.3 AI features and the larger food database
When you use these features, Trace sends what that feature needs to our servers, and our servers send it on to the service providers that process it for us (section 6). You agree to cloud AI analysis when you continue past setup's "Your data is yours" page, which says under its Continue button that continuing accepts our Terms of Service and this policy, and that AI providers may analyze what you submit. Nothing goes to AI before that, and each feature's first-use guide says what it sends. You can use these features with an account or, on iPhone and Android, without one, as described below. The account-free database lookups in section 3.2 are separate from these AI-assisted features.
Photo analysis
What is sent
The meal photo, and the meal type and time
What happens to it
Analyzed by an AI model to identify foods and amounts; the result returns to your phone
Photo check
What is sent
The meal photo, with small thumbnails of your usual meals
What happens to it
Checked by an AI service for framing and for a match with a usual meal. Trace doesn't store these images
Cup sizing (Snap your cup and the camera measure)
What is sent
A photo of your cup, glass or bottle, often with your hand holding it; app language; and, for the camera measure, the phone's own measurements
What happens to it
Read by an AI model to estimate how much it holds. Trace doesn't store these photos. Cup pictures you choose to save stay on your phone
Say it and AI descriptions
What is sent
The words you typed or spoke
What happens to it
Read by AI to identify foods, amounts and preparation
Fix issue
What is sent
Your correction, the meal's foods and its photo
What happens to it
Read by AI to correct the foods and amounts
AI-assisted product research
What is sent
Product name or description, or a scanned barcode; product category and app language
What happens to it
Our AI service searches official registries, such as Korea's Ministry of Food and Drug Safety and Japan's PMDA, and the web, to find the right product. Facts you confirm may be added to Trace's product catalog, without anything that identifies you
Online food search
What is sent
Your search words and candidate food labels and nutrient summaries
What happens to it
Our servers find candidate foods in the USDA's database and may ask an AI model to rank them
Search-word assistance
What is sent
Unfamiliar Korean/Japanese search words and the food, supplement or medication category
What happens to it
Checked by AI services for brand names and translated into English search terms while you type
Vitamin and mineral estimates
What is sent
The foods and amounts in a meal
What happens to it
Matched to nutrient data
We keep uploaded meal photos and descriptions only as long as needed to process them and return the result. Uploaded meal photos are deleted automatically, normally within a day, and Trace doesn't store cup photos or photo-check images at all. We don't use any of them to build a profile of you. How long our AI providers keep what they receive is on the
Service providers page.
When you ask Trace to research a product, our servers keep your request and its result in memory, to return the answer and to reuse it for about a day, including before you confirm it. Only facts you confirm are added to Trace's product catalog, without anything that identifies you.
Without an account, on iPhone. So these features stay fair without an account, your iPhone proves to our servers that it runs the genuine Trace app, using Apple's App Attest: your iPhone makes a key for Trace in its secure hardware, and Apple confirms it belongs to a genuine copy of the app. Our servers receive an identifier for that key and Apple's confirmation, and give your phone a short-lived guest pass.
•
The key exists only for Trace on this phone. It isn't your name, email address, advertising identifier or anything shared across apps, and installing the app again makes a new one.
•
Each phone has a daily allowance. Our servers count its uses over the last 24 hours, in memory only, under an anonymous number made from the key.
•
There's also a monthly limit on the cost of AI use. For it, our database keeps a pseudonymous number made from the key (not the key itself), with how many times each AI feature was used each month and its estimated cost, for the current and previous month. It holds no content and no internet address.
•
To protect the service, our servers also limit how often each internet (IP) address can ask, counting for one minute, in memory only.
•
Meal photos you send are stored under that anonymous number and deleted as described above. Cup photos aren't stored.
Without an account, on Android. Your phone makes a key for Trace in Android's secure key storage, and Google Play Integrity confirms that a genuine copy of Trace from Google Play is running on a device that passes Google's checks. Google processes that check under its own terms. Our servers receive the key's public part and Google's verdict, and give your phone a short-lived guest pass. The check does not send your photos or search words.
•
The key exists only for Trace on this phone, and installing the app again makes a new one.
•
The daily allowance, the monthly limit on the cost of AI use, the internet (IP) address limit and the handling of meal and cup photos work as on iPhone, above.
3.4 Your account
If you create an account, we process:
•
your email address and, if you sign in with Apple or Google, the identifier and any name or email that service shares with us;
•
an account identifier and sign-in tokens;
•
records of the features you used, for security and limits.
Accounts are managed by our cloud hosting provider's sign-in service. If you have Trace Plus, its records are described in section 3.8.
3.5 Speech
With "Say it", your phone turns speech into text. On iPhone, this happens on the device. On Android, your phone's speech service, such as Google's, may process the audio under its own terms. Trace receives only the text.
3.6 Device permissions
•
Camera: to take meal photos, scan barcodes, and photograph or measure your cup.
•
Photos: to pick a photo you choose, and to save images you choose to save.
•
Notifications: for reminders you set, scheduled on your phone (we don't send them from a server).
•
Motion sensors: to tell when the phone is held still for a photo. This stays on the phone.
You can turn each one off in your device settings.
3.7 Technical information
Our servers can record technical information needed to run and protect the service, such as IP address, time, the feature used and the request, app version, device type, status and errors. When we check the quality of meal analysis, these records can also include a meal's name and calorie summary. We keep technical records only as long as we need them for these purposes, and longer only to investigate a security incident or when the law requires it.
Android automatic cup tools. Cup fitting and photo cut-outs use Google's ARCore and ML Kit. ML Kit processes images on the phone; it does not send those images or cut-outs to Google. Google services may download models and send identifiers and app/device, usage and performance diagnostics to Google. ARCore may use a Google account identifier or a device identifier for its service analytics. These services operate under the
Google Privacy Policy. Cloud AI cup sizing is a separate photo transfer, described in section 3.3.
3.8 Trace Plus
Trace Plus is a subscription you buy in the app through the App Store or Google Play. The store handles payment: we never receive your card, bank or billing details.
•
A subscription management provider keeps Plus working for us (section 6). The app gives it a pseudonymous ID: your account's identifier if you're signed in, otherwise the number our servers know Trace on your phone by (section 3.3). It is never your name or email. The store shares your purchases and their renewals with the provider, and the provider tells our servers when something changes. Its software in the app also sends technical details such as the platform, app version and language.
•
Our servers keep, under that ID: whether you have Plus; the plan, the store and the store's country; when it started, renews or ends; and each change, such as a free trial starting or converting, a renewal, a cancellation or expiry with the store's reason, or a billing problem, with the price and currency. Nothing about what you eat or take.
•
We use these records to give you Plus on your phone and restore it, to answer you when you write to us about a purchase, to keep the financial records the law requires, and to count subscriptions in statistics that don't identify anyone.
•
Settings › Trace Plus shows a support ID, the same pseudonymous ID. If you send it to us, we use it to find your purchase.
You manage or cancel Plus in your App Store or Google Play subscriptions. Refunds are handled by the store.
3.9 Contacting us
If you write to us, we keep your message and our reply for 2 years to help you and to keep records.
3.10 What we don't collect
We don't receive your payment card or bank details: the App Store or Google Play handles payment. We don't collect your precise location, contacts or advertising identifier. We don't read data from Apple Health or Health Connect. We don't use advertising SDKs or track you across other companies' apps or websites for advertising. The Google service diagnostics used by Android's cup tools are described in section 3.7.
4. Why we use it
•
To provide the features you ask for.
•
To process health information for those features, with your agreement, given when you continue past setup (section 3.3), which you can withdraw at any time (section 9).
•
To send content to AI services to analyze it, with the same agreement, given before anything is sent.
•
To provide Trace Plus, and to keep the records of purchases the law requires (section 3.8).
•
To keep the service secure, prevent abuse and fix problems.
•
To comply with the law and respond to lawful requests.
•
To create de-identified, aggregated statistics, for example how often a feature fails. Data that is truly de-identified is no longer personal data.
•
Optional: to use your content to improve Trace's analysis and AI, or for health research, only with your separate consent, which is off unless you turn it on.
Your journal and Trace's on-device features send nothing. What the lookups and AI features send is described in sections 3.2 and 3.3, and each AI feature also says what it sends in its first-use guide.
5. Artificial intelligence
Some features use AI models run by our service providers. They return suggestions, which you review and can correct before saving. No decision with legal or similarly significant effects is made about you by automated means.
Our AI providers' terms don't allow them to use your content to train their models, except with your consent through the optional choice in section 4. They may keep it for a short time, as our
Service providers page describes.
6. Who we share it with
•
Service providers who process data for us under contracts that limit their use of it to our instructions and require protection at least equal to this policy. They host our servers and accounts, provide AI analysis, check photos and manage subscriptions. Our current list, with what each receives and where, is on the
Service providers page. We'll update that page, with notice, before we add or replace a provider.
•
Public databases and product catalogs, which receive lookup words, barcodes or product identifiers (section 3.2).
•
Google's Android cup-tool services, under Google's own terms and privacy policy (section 3.7).
•
The App Store or Google Play, which handle your Trace Plus purchase under their own terms (section 3.8).
•
The law. We disclose data when we must by law, or to protect the rights, safety or property of our users, the public or MySupplements, and only what is required.
•
Business transfers. If MySupplements is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing or sale of assets, personal data may transfer to the successor. It stays subject to this policy, and we'll notify you before it becomes subject to a different one.
•
With your consent, for any other purpose you agree to.
We don't sell personal data. We don't share it for targeted or cross-context advertising, and we don't use it to profile you for advertising.
7. Where your data is processed
We are based in the United States, and our servers are in the United States (Oregon). Our service providers may process data in other countries, as described on the
Service providers page.
8. How long we keep it
•
Your journal on your device: until you delete it in Settings or delete the app.
•
Uploaded photos and descriptions: see section 3.3.
•
Without an account: your phone's daily allowance count is kept only in our servers' memory (section 3.3), and its monthly usage record is kept for the current and previous month.
•
Your account: until you delete it. Deleting it removes your account and the data our servers keep with it, except what our
Delete your account page lists as kept. Photos that were still uploading are removed by a later cleanup.
•
Backups: deleted data can remain in backup copies of our database until those copies are deleted. Automatic backups are kept for seven days; copies kept to restore the service after a failure can be kept longer. We use backups only to restore the service, and protect them like our other systems.
•
Technical logs: see section 3.7.
•
Trace Plus records: while you have Plus, and afterwards as long as we need them for support, refunds, and the financial and tax records the law requires.
•
Exceptions: we keep anything we must keep by law, or to establish or defend legal claims, only as long as needed for that.
9. Your rights and choices
In the app, at any time:
•
export your data (Settings › Your data › Export backup);
•
delete everything on your device (Settings › Your data › Delete all data);
•
stop sending content to AI by not using the features in section 3.3;
•
manage or cancel Trace Plus in your App Store or Google Play subscriptions;
•
turn off device permissions.
By email to support@mysupplementsapp.com: depending on where you live, you can ask to access, correct, delete or get a copy of your personal data, object to its use, or withdraw consent. We'll verify your request, usually by asking you to confirm from your account's email, and respond within the time the law requires, usually 45 days. We won't treat you differently for using your rights.
9.1 Your rights under U.S. state laws
Depending on your state, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas and others, you have the right to know, access, correct and delete your personal data, to get a copy, and to appeal a decision about your request by emailing us with "Appeal" in the subject line. If we deny an appeal, you can contact your state attorney general. You can use an authorized agent.
We don't sell or share personal data, and we use sensitive personal information (health information and account credentials) only to provide the features you request and for the other purposes the law permits.
10. Children
Trace is not for people under 18, and we don't knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we'll delete it.
11. Security
•
Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS, TLS 1.2 or later) and at rest on our servers, including our database, its backups and photo storage.
•
Access is limited to people and systems that need it, and secrets are stored in a managed vault.
•
Your journal on the phone is protected by your device's security.
No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your personal data, we'll notify you and the authorities as the law requires.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Trace changes. We'll post the new version with its effective date. For material changes, we'll tell you in the app at least 30 days before they apply, and ask for your consent where the law requires it. When a new feature sends personal data in a new way, the app will say what it sends before you first use it.
